#8 Wolves Stay Atop The SAC With Dominate 4-0 Victory

Just 17 hours after defeating Converse in Spartanburg in their final regular season road game of the year, the #8 ranked Newberry College Wolves field hockey team rolled to an impressive 4-0 South Atlantic Conference victory at Setzler Field over Belmont Abbey on a warm Saturday afternoon to stay in first place in the SAC standings.

Tamsin Bangert had two goals and an assist, Emma Westbrook and Wibien Dahmen each had a goal and Parker Keeler added two assists while Kyla Cooke and Ayanda Mangenah combined to register the Wolves sixth shutout of the season.

The win is Newberry's fifth straight, seventh in their last eight games and improved their overall record to 13-2 overall and 9-2 mark in the SAC, maintaining the team's one game lead atop the league standings.
The win was also the team's third in just five days beginning with Tuesday's 3-1 victory over Mount Olive at home and last night's identical 3-1 triumph at Converse.

During the winning streak the Wolves have outscored their opponents 14-2.

The Wolves dominated the Crusaders outshooting them 15-5, 9-2 in shots on goal, and an 8-5 advantage on penalty corners.

Newberry opened the scoring early as Westbrook registered her team leading 11th goal of the season off an assist from Keeler at the 8:25 mark of the first quarter.

The Wolves improved the advantage to 3-0 by halftime on Bangert's first goal of the game off Keeler's second assist of the game at the 19:12 mark and followed up just over a minute later as Dahmen scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Bangert.

Newberry closed out the scoring with a fourth quarter unassisted goal by Banger at the 55:58 mark.

Bangert's five-point game increased his season totals to eight goals, nine assists and a team-leading 25 points. 

In her four-year career, Bangert has 34 goals, 24 assists and 92 points, all school records.

Westbrook now has 24 points this season to increase her career totals to 32 goals, seven assists and 71 points.

Newberry closes out the regular season with three home games next week – Tuesday against Lander and Thursday against Lincoln Memorial at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday against Converse at 11:00 a.m.
