Sarah Waller made six saves in registering her second solo shutout of the season and the Wolves' seventh of the year as Newberry tied Carson-Newman on the road 0-0.
The tie moved the Wolves record to 6-4-3 overall and 1-4-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Waller made three saves in each half and has had a hand in all seven shutouts this year on her own or combined with fellow goalkeeper
Aubrey Cripe.
The team's seven shutouts ranked for fourth in school history behind the ten registered in both the 2009 and 2014 seasons, eight in 2004, and now tied with the 2012, 2013 and 2017 teams which each had seven shutouts in a season.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half with each team registering three shots on goal. Waller had three saves in the first half for the Wolves while
Molly Quartly,
Kirsty Cameron and Lillian Miller each registered a shot on goal. Carson-Newman had three corner kicks in the first 45 minutes while the Wolves did not register one.
In the second half Waller had three additional saves while Quartly added another shot on goal along with
Allyna Gonzalez and
Emily Castaneda.
Carson-Newman finished the game with seven corner kicks while the Wolves failed to register one.
The Wolves are tied for ninth place in the SAC standing with Emory & Henry, three points behind eighth place Anderson and Carson-Newman. The top eight teams qualify for the SAC Postseason Tournament.
Newberry travels to Emory, Va. Sunday to take on Emory & Henry at 2:00 p.m.
