OVERVIEW: NEWBERRY COLLEGE VS LIMESTONE UNIVERSITY

SCORE: Newberry Wolves 3, Limestone Saints 1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22)

RECORDS: Newberry (5-10, 2-6 SAC), Limestone (5-9, 4-7 SAC)

LOCATION: Timken Gym – Gaffney, SC

 

HIGHLIGHTS:

    Set 1:

  • The Saints got off to a rocket start in set one, after leading the Wolves 4-3, they went on a 9-2 run, taking a commanding 13-5 lead.

  • The Saints stayed consistent in their advantage, pushing the score to 20-12.

  • The Wolves clawed away at the deficit, but the Saints were able to prevail and take set one 25-17.

    Set 2:

  • Newberry bounced back in set two, opening with a 5-0 run, including a service ace by Kate Brown and a block by Samantha Shaffer.

  • The Wolves extended their lead to 13-8 with solid defense, and kills from Anna Schneider and Emma Christensen.

  • Despite a push from Limestone, Newberry closed out the set 25-19 to tie the match at 1-1.

    Set 3:

  • Newberry carried their momentum into the third set, jumping out to a 10-6 lead.

  • The Wolves dominated on offense with 12 kills, extending their lead to 20-14.

  • Gabby Warren, Brown, and Shaffer finished off the Saints from this point, all adding a kill to the books in their last five points, 25-16 final.

    Set 4:

  • Both teams were matched tight in the fourth set, with the Wolves holding the largest lead of the set in an 8-3 lead.

  • The Saints managed to tie it all up at 18-18 late in the set, and take their first lead of the game one point later. 

  • In a 20-20 tie, Shaffer took the game into her hands, accounting for three of their next five points off kills, assisted by Annie Dill, Katy Morrison, and Kate Gross.

  • The Wolves won set four and closed the match after a close 25-22 final.
