JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Visting Holt Fieldhouse for the first time in nearly two years, the Newberry College men's basketball team lost to South Atlantic Conference foe Carson-Newman 103-51 on Saturday afternoon.
James Lovorn paced Newberry (2-9, 1-5 SAC) for the second straight game, totaling 14 points with three 3s.
Caleb Byrd joined Lovorn in double figures with 10 points while
Shane Hawkins had a season-high eight.
Luke Nesbit also scored his first points as a Wolf in the game.
The Wolves trailed 9-5 at the game's first media timeout. Carson-Newman (10-3, 3-2 SAC) went on an 8-2 run out of the timeout to make it 17-7 before the Wolves answered with a 10-3 run of their own to trim the deficit to three, 20-17.
The Eagles controlled the game from there, entering halftime with a 40-19 advantage. C-N outscored the Wolves 63-32 over the final 20 minutes for the final score.
Newberry returns to Eleazer Arena on Wednesday (Jan. 10) for a game against Lenoir-Rhyne at 7:30 p.m.
