Preview: Men's Basketball Looks to Make it 2 in a Row on the Road Against Emory & Henry

NEWBERRY – In their first game since an exhilarating 97-84 overtime win over Mars Hill on Wednesday night, the Newberry College men's basketball team returns to the hardwood tomorrow (Jan. 27) – this time on the road against Emory & Henry. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. in Virginia.

Scouting the Wolves:
•    Newberry (4-11, 3-7 South Atlantic Conference) picked up its third conference win of the 2023-24 campaign in Eleazer Arena Wednesday night.
•    James Lovorn continued his impressive run with a 30-point effort to lead the Wolves. Lovorn shot 7 of 12 from 3-point range and 8 of 14 overall.
•    Malik Joseph and Drake Downs each scored 20 in the win – Downs now has three 20-point games this season and Joseph, two.
•    Jalen Johnson recorded his second career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, leading Newberry's output in the latter category.
•    Lovorn's .430 shooting percentage from 3-point land is 10th in the SAC.

Scouting the Wasps:
•    Emory & Henry (4-14, 1-9) has lost seven straight games including a 106-99 overtime loss to Carson-Newman on Wednesday.
•    Marshall Klug and Jalen Leftwich led the Wasps with 21 points apiece in the loss.
•    Leftwich is E&H's leading scorer at 13.4 points per game and his .554 field-goal percentage is 13th in the conference.
•    Jacob Dar (17 points) and Gabe Brown (11) were the other Wasps to reach double figures against the Eagles.
•    The Wasps are statistically one of the worst defensive teams in the SAC: Opponents shoot 39.6% from long distance against them – the worst mark in the conference – 47.5% from the floor – third-worst in the league – and they allow 88.7 points per game – the second-most in the SAC.
