NEWBERRY- The Newberry College field hockey team continued their hot start to the season, opening South Atlantic Conference play with a 2-1 victory over the Saints of Limestone University.
The Wolves were aggressive on the offensive attack, outshooting the Saints 10-4 and had seven corners compared to Limestone's one corner on the afternoon.
The Wolves got on the board with 5:24 left in the first period when senior defender,
Hailey Moore put one in the net off of a blocked shot to make the score 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Saints tied the match up with a goal from Felicitas Herrero Martel. With 3:04 seconds to go in the first half, junior forward
Tamsin Bangert put one in the net on a give and go with freshman forward
Parker Keeler to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead. Throughout the second half both teams kept each other scoreless to end with a 2-1 Wolves victory.
The Wolves (3-0, 1-0 SAC), will be back in action Tuesday (Sept.12) as they will host the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey. That match will start at 7:00 p.m. (EST) from Setzler Field.
