Plumer’s Late Goal Pushes No. 9 Wolves to 4-0 Start

NEWBERRY ?   Graduate defender Marissa Plumer notched her first goal of the 2023 season for the Wolves with 2:58 remaining in regulation to lift the no. 9 ranked Newberry College field hockey squad to an 4-0 record on a 2-1 victory over Belmont Abbey College Tuesday (Sept. 12) night at Setzler field.
 
The Wolves scored two unanswered goals in the second half after trailing 1-0 at halftime. With just under ten minutes to play in the third quarter, sophomore forward Emma Westbrook put one past the keeper off the assist from junior Tamsin Bangert to tie the match up at one.
 
The Wolves and Crusaders battled from there until with 2:58 left in the fourth quarter, Plumer would take a pass from senior Hailey Moore and put one past everyone into the goal from the top of the striking circle to give the Wolves a 2-1 lead. That goal would be the exclamation point of the night as the Wolves would hold on to that lead.  
 
The match started at approximately 7:55 p.m. after a lightning delay from a thunderstorm that rolled through the mid-state.
 
The no. 9 ranked Wolves (4-0, 2-0 SAC) will be back in action this Thursday (Sept. 14) as they will take host to the Cobras of Coker University. Thursday's match will start from Setzler field at 6:00 p.m. (EST)
