Kristen Sternkopf selected as Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach

NEWBERRY- After a back to back record breaking season for Newberry Women's Lacrosse, Kristen (Kace) Sternkopf has been appointed Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach to aid the women's 2024 season.

"Kace brings a vast knowledge of the Division 2 landscape in the south region. She will have an immediate impact on recruiting in areas we are looking to grow in." said Head Women's Coach Tommy Kelly. "She appreciates the growth that we have made in recent years and understands where I would like to take this program. Most importantly Kace sees the potential in this group of young women which I believe is irreplaceable as a leader."

Kace joins the wolves after a three season campaign at Barton College where she was the head offensive coach for the women bulldogs. Under her, the bulldogs posted a 17-7 conference record and saw three conference semifinal appearances. Over the three seasons the Bulldogs saw an impressive 17 All-conference honors with one of those athletes finishing second in NCAA DII with caused turnovers per game and ground balls per game.

Formerly a Mount Olive Trojan, Kace received her Bachelors of Science in 2020 and her Masters of Business Administration in 2021. While doing her undergrad she served as an Assistant Coach for two seasons before transitioning to Barton College.

"The last two seasons she's had the opportunity to game plan against us, which will allow her to bring a completely different perspective to our program. I am excited to share the opportunity to lead this group of young women with Coach Kace," Kelly says.
