PREVIEW: Women’s Lacrosse Looks for 7th Straight Win in Regular-Season Finale

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College women's lacrosse team (11-5, 8-1 South Atlantic Conference) will look to lock-up the No. 2 seed in the conference with a win tonight over the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (7-9, 6-3 SAC). With a win, the Wolves would push their streak to seven in a row, and also earn a first-round bye in the SAC playoffs.

Scouting the Bears: Lenoir-Rhyne makes the two-plus hour trek south to Setzler Field after losing to Limestone at home Saturday, 15-13. The Bears were led by Chloe Christensen's five goals in that contest – she leads the team with 34 on the season. Four players scored two goals each to round out the scoring for Lenoir-Rhyne against the Saints, showing their balanced attack offensively. Defensively, the Bears are a formidable unit that is tied for the third-most caused turnovers in the SAC (166), an effort spearheaded by Isabelle Dunnam's 35. Their starting goalie, Teanna Sieben, boasts the second-best save percentage in the conference (48.3%).

Scouting the Wolves: Newberry is currently riding a six-game winning streak, two shy of the program-record eight straight wins set a season ago. In their last game on the road against Tusculum, the Wolves were tested early but prevailed for an 11-6 win. Heather Johnston (Merritt Island, Fla.) registered a hat trick in the game, while Jenny Bates (Sherwood Park, Alberta), Hanna Bond (Falls Church, Va.) and Cassell Richardson (Forest, Va.) all scored twice. Turning to tonight's game, the Newberry defense will present the Bears' offense a challenge akin to their counterparts. The Wolves are in the top-half of the conference in caused turnovers (154), led by Marissa Plumer's (Kent Island, Md.) 26, and their goaltending is equally stout as primary netminder Mackenzie Dorr (Riverhead, N.Y.) is fourth in the SAC in save percentage (43.3%).
