LAKE HICKORY, N.C. -- The Newberry College men's golf team kicked-off action at the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Championships with an eighth place showing on the leader board after round one action at Lake Hickory Country Club in Lake Hickory, N.C.  Lenoir-Rhyne is serving as this season's host institution.

Senior Patrick Jacobs (Prosperity, S.C.) led the way for Newberry on the day as he was able to post a team best 73 in the round to sit in a tie for 15th on the individual side. Senior Alex Pillar (Hawley, Pa.) currently sits tied for 18th on the leader board as he carded an opening round 74.

Freshman Javier Borrego Martin (Salamanca, Spain) and fellow freshman Herman Du Plessis (Johannesburg, Z.A.) each turned in rounds of 77 in the opening round of action to sit in a tie for 37th on the individual leader board. Sophomore Tom Hull (Spalding, England) wrapped up the scoring in the opening round with a scorecard of 80.

The Wolves return to action tomorrow, April 17 as they kick-off the second round at 9:15 a.m.
