GREENWOOD, S.C. – Senior Patrick Jacobs (Prosperity, S.C.) hit six-under 66 to start the day at the Bearcat Golf Classic to help the Newberry College men's golf team sit in sixth overall after two rounds of action on Monday, March 6.
Jacobs followed up his opening round with an even-par round of 72 to sit alone in second on the leader board after 36 holes. Senior Alex Pillar (Hawley, Pa.) kicked off his week with a 72 before better his score in the second round, shooting a two-under 70 to sit tied for 14th in the field.
Sophomore Benny Fischer (Regensburg, Germany) shot two-over in the opening round but would join the likes of Pillar and Jacobs with an under par round on the day as he carded a one-under 71 in the second, sitting in a tie for 35th. Freshman Herman du Plessis (Johannesburg, Z.A.) shot two-over in the opening round while following that up with a round of 75 later in the day, currently sitting in a tie for 64th in the tournament. Fellow freshman Javier Borrego Martin (Salamanca, Spain) turned in rounds of 75 and 76, respectively, on the day to sit in a tie for 85th.
While not the entire field was able to complete both rounds today due to darkness, the teams will return to the course at 8:00 a.m. to finish out the second round and tackle third round action tomorrow.
