MARS HILL, N.C. – The Newberry College football team lost to Mars Hill this afternoon 21-14 at Ammons Family Athletic Center & Meares Stadium.
Dwayne Wright ran for 132 yards on a season high 24 touches and scoring a touchdown late in the fourth quarter cutting the Lions lead to 21-14.
Malik Devine-Brown had six tackles and two TFLs.
The Wolves defense locked down in the second half, only allowing the Lions past the 50-yard line in their opening drive.
Down 21-0 going into the fourth quarter the Wolves offense got it going with a 12 play 100-yard drive ending with a
Kee Williams seven-yard touchdown run to make it 21-7. The Wolves defense would force the second turnover of the afternoon as Ben Jackson would strip Lions running back Malik Laurent and recovered the fumble giving the Wolves great field position at the Mars Hill 24.
The Wolves would score five plays later with a Wright two-yard touchdown run to make it 21-14.
Next possession the Wolves would force the Lions to Punt giving them the ball back with 1:57 left with a chance to tie the game. The Wolves would run 10 plays going for 75 yards and just missed getting the ball into the endzone to tie on the final play falling 21-14.
The Wolves finish the season 4-7 and 3-6 in the South Atlantic Conference.
