HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Although they got on the board early in the game's second minute, the Newberry College men's soccer team was unable to overcome a four-goal day from Coker as they fell 4-1 Wednesday afternoon on the road.
Senior
Uriel Zarracan scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season just 1:46 into the match to get the Wolves off and running.
In the 15th minute, Zarracan fired another shot on net that was saved by the Cobras' keeper, but just a minute later, Coker tied the game at one apiece.
Seraphin Guetan and
Ferran Macian were able to get shots on goal in the 22nd and 26th minutes before the Cobras gained a one-goal advantage in the 31st minute, a lead they held the rest of the first half.
After Coker extended its lead to 3-1 early in the second half,
Henok Awoke and
Brayden Martinez looked to narrow the gap but both of their chances were thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper.
The Cobras scored the final goal of the game in the 65th minute to widen their edge to 4-1.
Newberry was able to generate a few more scoring opportunities over the final 25 minutes but to no avail.
The Wolves will look to capture a home victory one week from tomorrow (Oct. 12) as they take on the Shorter University Hawks in a non-conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
