HARTWELL, Ga. – Competing for the second time this fall season, the Newberry College men's golf team finished in 16th place at the Cateechee Fall Invitational at the Cateechee Golf Club.
As a team, the Wolves showed marked improvement with an even-par 284 in the final round to climb two spots on the leaderboard after the second round.
Co-captain and junior,
Tom Hull, led the way for the Wolves, carding a +3 in his three rounds combined. Hull started the tournament with a solid three-under 68 yesterday which placed him in a tie for seventh overall after one round. That was followed by a 78 in the second round, and a one-under 70 today.
Freshman
Jack Earle, competing in his first collegiate tournament, turned in a three-round total of 219 to finish +6. Earle shot an even-par 71 in the first round and followed that with a 76 and a 72.
Co-captain
Benny Fischer was a shot behind Earle as he had a three-round total of 220 to finish +7, including an even-par round today.
Herman du Plessis and
Carlos Camaros-Ruiz finished at +10 and +14, respectively.
Newberry has next week off before returning to the course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 16-17 for the Barton Fall Intercollegiate Tournament at Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, North Carolina.
