CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Newberry College men's basketball team battled the Bulldogs of The Citadel, falling 91-74 in an exhibition game this afternoon in McAlister Field House.
Devario Sheppard led the Wolves with 19 points on the afternoon.
Drake Downs had 13 points and three blocks. The Wolves battled with foul trouble throughout the game.
In the first half they shot 51% from the field and 50% from beyond the arch, going back and forth with the Bulldogs. The Wolves held their biggest lead with 28-22 midway through the first half. The Citadel took a 49-44 halftime lead.
In the first half, the Wolves and Bulldogs were tied six times and had five lead changes.
In the second half the Bulldogs started strong going on a 10-6 run before the media timeout to take a 59-50 lead. The Wolves would keep battling, bringing the game back to a two-possession game multiple times. Behind three balls from

The Wolves would cool down from the three-point line in the second half shooting 3-14.
The Wolves will have their second exhibition game Wednesday night, as they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m., from Littlejohn Coliseum.
