NEWBERRY – The Newberry College field hockey team finished their regular season with a 4-0 win over Converse this afternoon at Setzler Field.
Freshman forward Parker Keeler had five points, scoring two goals and an assist on the afternoon.
The Wolves spent the afternoon in the Converse attack circle, outshooting the Valkyries 18-5. The Wolves also had 11 corners on the day.
The Wolves got their scoring started in the second quarter as Keeler would put a deflection past the goal with the assist going to Tamsin Bangert to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Emma Westbrook would score, laying down on her stomach on a pass sent into the circle by Keeler to make it 2-0. Keeler would add her second goal with 6:05 to go in the third quarter with a deflection off the assist of Agustina Montserrat to extend the Wolves lead to 3-0.
Early in the fourth quarter, Stembile Chikoore would deflect a rocket of a pass from Lieke Varenkamp into the cage to put the icing on the cake for the Wolves in their 4-0 victory.
Newberry (14-3, 11-3 SAC) will play in the South Atlantic Conference semifinals next Friday at Mount Olive, N.C., against either Limestone or Converse at 5:00 p.m.
