TOCCOA, Ga. – Taking to the course for the second consecutive week, the Newberry College men's golf team placed 14th in the 54-hole Currahee Collegiate Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
North Georgia won the tournament with a team total of 854 (-10). Lincoln Memorial (-5) was second, followed by Barton (+5), Wingate (+11) and USC Beaufort (+18).
Benny Fischer had the best round of the day for the Wolves this afternoon, shooting a 3-under 69. With a first round score of 74 and a second round score of 75, Fischer was +2 for the tournament and finished in a tie for 15th on the leaderboard.
Tom Hull, who registered 10 birdies throughout the tournament, carded a 74, 81 and 76 in his three rounds to finish +15. Tied with Hull was
Carlos Camaros-Ruiz with a three-round scorecard of 80-74-77.
Herman du Plessis improved considerably in his final round, carding a 76 after previous scores of 80 and 82 in the first two rounds.
Jesper Gruendemann had matching 80s in the first two rounds before shooting a 79 in his final round.
This was the Wolves' final tournament of the fall season as they look ahead to the spring season in February.
