Wolves Attempt To Win Four Straight As They Take On Anderson

Newberry hits the road to face cross-state rival Anderson

Newberry, SC - After a double-OT win at Lincoln Memorial on Monday (Feb. 7), the Newberry Women's basketball team continues their two-game road swing as they take on cross-state rival and conference foe Anderson University on Wednesday (Feb. 9). Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside Abney Athletic Center.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Wednesday's matchup will be the 36th meeting all-time between Newberry and Anderson's Women's basketball programs. Anderson leads the all-time series 25-11, with their last matchup taking place earlier this season (Nov. 27). Anderson won the first meeting this season, 72-60, inside Eleazer Arena. 

MATCHUP PREVIEW

NEWBERRY


The Scarlet & Gray (9-13, 9-10 SAC) are 7-4 in their last 11 games and looking to win their fourth straight on Wednesday. Newberry has scored above their average (60.5) in three of their last five games, and are allowing opponents an average of 62.8 points per game (11th in SAC) this season. The Wolves are also fifth in the conference in three-pointers made a game with 6.1 pg.

Giulia Bongiorno is fourth in the SAC in three-point percentage (43.3%), and averaging a team-high in points (10 ppg) and assists (2.3 apg). 

Ericka Wiseley has now scored in double-figures in six straight games, bringing her average to 8.4 ppg this season on 45-percent shooting from the field. 

ANDERSON

The Anderson Trojans (15-8, 15-4 SAC) are averaging 69.1 ppg (5th in SAC), while allowing opponents an average of 63.8 ppg (5th in SAC). The Trojans rank first in the league in offensive rebounding (15.9 pg), defensive rebounding (29.5 pg), and total rebounds with 45.4 per game.

Shameka McNeill leads the SAC in scoring, averaging a team and league-high 23 ppg. 

LAST ACTION 

The Wolves won their third-straight game on Monday night (Feb. 7), in a double overtime thriller at Lincoln Memorial (74-72). A trio of Wolves scored in double-figures, including Ericka Wiseley's second double-double performance (14 points, 10 rebounds) of the season. April Rummery-Lamb led the charge for the Wolves, scoring a season-high 15 points and six rebounds to lead her club to victory. Holly Davies was also a key scorer in Monday's win, tallying 13 points on 56-percent shooting from the field.  

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The Newberry Women's basketball team returns home Saturday (Feb. 12) to face the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters in their annual Play4Kay Game. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena.
