Senior Day on Saturday, Wolves Host Lenoir-Rhyne to Finish Season

Wolves look to win six of their last seven at Eleazer

Newberry, S.C. - On a day where we honor seniors, the Newberry Women's basketball team hosts the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday (Feb. 26). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Saturday's contest will be the 61st meeting all-time between the two programs. Newberry is 26-34 against Lenoir-Rhyne in a matchup that dates back to 1987. Their last meeting took place earlier this season (Dec. 20) with LR getting the victory at home, 73-61, in Hickory, N.C.

Newberry (11-15, 11-12 SAC) enters Saturday's game having won five of their last six at home. NC is currently ranked sixth in the South Atlantic Conference, making Saturday's contest crucial to securing a SAC Tournament spot. 

The Wolves are averaging 59.8 points per game (11th in SAC) this season while allowing opponents an average of 65.5 ppg (7th in SAC). They rank third in the conference in blocks with 3.8 rejections per game and fourth in total rebounds with 41 per game. 

Giulia Bongiorno (Rome, Italy) is the Wolves leading scorer, facilitator and rebounder, scoring 9.5 ppg, handing out 2.5 assists pg, and grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game. Bongiorno is also fourth in the conference in three-point percentage (43.5%). 

Ericka Wiseley (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) has scored in double-figures in seven out of her last 10 games, bringing her average to eight points per game on the season. 

LENOIR-RHYNE

Lenoir-Rhyne (11-14, 10-13 SAC) goes into Saturday's matchup boasting a three-game win streak. The Bears average 65.8 ppg (7th in SAC) and allow opponents 66.4 ppg (9th in SAC).

Brandi Hudson tops the Bears in scoring, averaging 17.2 ppg and 1.4 assist pg. 

Emily Harman leads in assists, averaging four per game. 

LAST ACTION

Newberry won their final road game of the season on Wednesday (Feb. 23) at Coker University. The Wolves edged the Cobras by six points in overtime to win 69-63. Wiseley led the charge with 13 points and five rebounds in the win. April Rummery-Lamb (Darwin, NT, Australia) sank two free-throws with seven seconds left to send the game into overtime and followed that up with four points in overtime to bring her total to 12 points for the game.
