Women’s Basketball takes on Coker in Final Road Game of the Season

Wolves look for season sweep over Coker

Newberry, S.C. - In their final road contest of the 2021-22 season, the Newberry Women's basketball team stays in the Palmetto state to face the Cobras of Coker University. Tipoff is scheduled for Wednesday (Feb. 23) at 5:30 p.m. inside the DeLoach Center.

MATCHUP HISTORY

Wednesday's contest will be the 45th meeting all-time in a series that dates back to 1978. Newberry leads the series 30-14 with their last meeting taking place almost a month ago (Jan. 24) in Eleazer Arena. Newberry came away with the 64-40 home victory and their second straight win over the Cobras. 

PREVIEW

NEWBERRY


Newberry (10-15, 10-12 SAC) currently sits at seventh in South Atlantic Conference standings and have one game remaining after Wednesday. The Wolves rank in the top five in total rebounds per game (4th with 40.6), offensive rebounds pg (5th with 12.9), and three-point attempts pg (5th with 21.2 pg). NC is scoring 59.5 ppg this season and allowing opponents 65.6  ppg. 

Giulia Bongiorno (Rome, Italy) remains the top scorer for the Wolves averaging 9.6 ppg and a team high 2.4 assists per game. 

Ericka Wiseley (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) is the team's second leading scorer, averaging 7.7 ppg on the season. Wiseley has the chance to eclipse 300 career rebounds before the season ends as she heads into Wednesday's matchup with 282 career rebounds. 

COKER

Coker (6-18, 5-17 SAC) is 3-7 at home this season and currently sits at 12th in league standings. The Cobras are averaging 58.1 ppg (12th in SAC) while allowing opponents 68.2 ppg (10th in SAC). 

Saquita Joyner leads the Cobras in scoring and steals, averaging 13 ppg and 1.3 steals pg. 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The Newberry Women's basketball team will honor their Seniors in their last game of the season on Saturday (Feb. 26) as they host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears at 2 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena.
