Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College men's basketball team (12-11, 12-9 SAC) will look to pick up another South Atlantic Conference victory on Wednesday when they host the Catawba Indians (9-12, 8-11 SAC) in Eleazer Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The Wolves are coming off of a dominant victory over Mars Hill while the Indians will be trying to end a three-game losing streak. Newberry was able to come away with a 20-point victory over Catawba in the previous matchup between the two programs, but despite their record, the Indians are a more than capable team when they get hot. They proved this on Jan. 22 when they were able to earn a 91-87 victory over Lincoln Memorial who are currently ranked eighth in the country in the NABC Coaches Poll.
The Indians are led by freshman guard Caleb Robinson who comes in leading the SAC in points per game (18.5) on an efficient 49.4 percent shooting. As a team, Catawba comes into the matchup as the third-highest scoring offense in the SAC at 79.7 points per game. However, their defense has failed them at times as they also allow the third most points to be scored against them per contest.Â
