Wolves Women Look To Bounce Back in Saturday’s Annual Play4Kay Game

Wolves aim for sixth straight home victory

Newberry, S.C. - Saturday will be Newberry's annual Play4Kay Game. The Newberry Women's basketball team will host the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial on Saturday (Feb. 12). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena. Newberry is 5-0 at home since the New Year.

PLAY4KAY GAME 

Play4Kay is an initiative sponsored by the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation, which is an organization that supports innovative ways of fighting all cancers affecting women and providing support through giving strength, courage, and hope. The purpose of this game is to raise awareness and funds toward cancer research to achieve the ultimate goal of ending women's cancers.

MATCHUP HISTORY 

Newberry and Lincoln Memorial's Women's basketball programs faced off this past Monday (Feb. 7) with Newberry defeating the Railsplitters 74-72 in double overtime. Saturday's contest will be the 35th meeting all-time between the two teams in a matchup that dates back to 1993. Newberry leads the series 25-10. 

MATCHUP PREVIEW

NEWBERRY


Newberry (9-14, 9-11 SAC) continues to climb the SAC standings after starting the season 2-9, the Wolves are 7-5 in their last 12 games, bringing them to sixth place in the league. 

The Scarlet & Gray are averaging 59.4 points per game (11th in SAC) this season, while allowing opponents 65.7 ppg (6th in SAC). 

Ericka Wisely is averaging 11.7 ppg in her last seven contests, including a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds) on Monday (Feb. 7) against the Railsplitters. 

Giulia Bongiorno remains the Wolves leading scorer through 23 games, averaging 9.5 ppg and a 43.6 three-point percentage (4th in SAC). 

LINCOLN MEMORIAL

Lincoln Memorial (9-11, 7-10 SAC) has four players averaging double digits in scoring this season. Irelynn Davisson leads the way with 13.6 ppg on 47-percent shooting from the field. Mikayla Kuehne is the team's leader in assists (3.8) and rebounding (6.2). 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Newberry Women's basketball will remain at home to take on the Catawba Indians on Wednesday (Feb. 16) inside Eleazer Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
