NEWBERRY,S.C. — In the first home match of the 2022-2023, Head Coach Deral Brown and the Wolves (2-0, 2-0 SACC) put on a show for the home crowd with a 43-12 win over Lincoln Memorial. The night was dominated by the Wolves as all wins came in the form of pins, technical falls, and major decisions. Even after two forfeits from the opposing team, the team remained focused and turned their attention to getting a result for Newberry in a packed Eleazer Arena.
The night would get started at 125 lbs, but the Wolves would not be able to get the dual started on a high note as the Wolves would go down by pin. At 133 lbs, Timothy Decatur (Goldsboro, N.C.) would soon change the mood as he would pin his opponent, though if he would have completed his move he would have had a tech fall victory by a score of 21-5. A second loss for the Wolves in the 141 lb weight class would be the last time a Wolf would not get their hand raised as Newberry would go on a roll after.
Devan Moore (Baxely, Ga.) would make quick work of his opponent at 149 lbs by scoring a technical fall in the first period of action, and Nolan Wheeler (Dahlonega, Ga.) would secure a major decision victory in the 157 lbs weight class. Asa Walton (Buena, N.J.) and Dayton Fields (Seneca, Mo.) would score a tech fall and fall in the 165 and 174 lb weight class, respectively, before taking a brief intermission in the dual.
When the action picked up, Newberry would score forfeit victories in the 184 lbs and 197 lb weight class before ending the night with Devon Rice's (Rock Hill, S.C.) pin in the 285 lbs weight class to put the night to rest and secure a 43-12 final score in the dual.
Newberry gets some time to get back in the gym and rest as their next match will come on November 29 again UNC-Pembroke on the road, starting at 7 PM.
