KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Returning to the course after just a week break, the Newberry College men's golf team currently sits in 12th place at the Irish Creek Invitational hosted by Wingate University at The Club at Irish Creek.
The Wolves finished the opening day, which consisted of 36 holes over two-rounds of golf, with a 23-over scorecard on the day. That puts them just three strokes outside of the top ten teams of the tournament while Coker University sits atop the leader board with a three-under on the day.
Sophomore Carlos Camaros-Ruiz (Madrid, Spain) led the way for the Wolves with a four-over day over his two rounds. Senior Alex Pillar (Hawley, Pa.) currently sits in second-highest position for the Wolves as he currently sits in a tie for 35th with a five-over score.
Just a stroke behind him is senior Patrick Jacobs (Prosperity, S.C.) with a six-over day as he posted a pair of three-over rounds in the first day of the tournament. Sophomore Miguel Meza (Torreon, Mexico) rebounded from an opening round eight-over score to shoot even in the second round, sitting currently in tie for 53rd in the tournament. Freshman Sander Bilkom Hagen (Tonsberg, Norway) rounded out the day for the Wolves alone in 80th place.
Newberry wraps up the Irish Creek Invitational in the morning when third round action kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
