Women’s Hoops Faces Off Against Coker University on Monday

Wolves look to go 3-0 at home in January

Newberry, S.C. (January 23, 2022) - Newberry Women's Basketball finishes their two-game homestand on Monday (Jan. 24) against Coker University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside Eleazer Arena

MATCHUP HISTORY

Monday's contest will be the 43rd meeting all-time between Newberry and Coker Women's basketball, in a matchup that dates back to 1978. The Wolves lead the all-time series, 29-14. Their last matchup took place 11 months ago (Feb. 24) with Newberry coming away with a dominating 30-point victory (88-58), inside Eleazer Arena.

NEWBERRY 


Newberry (5-12, 5-9 SAC) looks to get their third straight win and go 3-0 at home in the month of January. 

Courtney Virgo is averaging 16.0 ppg in her last three games after posting a 19-point performance against UVA Wise this past Saturday (Jan. 22). 

Giulia Bongiorno leads all Wolves in scoring and assists this season with 9.8 points per game and 2.4 assists through 17 games.  

Holly Davies has also remained a consistent presence in scoring this season for the Wolves averaging 6.2 points per game and two assists. 

COKER 

Coker (4-10, 3-9 SAC) aims to get their second win in the month of January and begin a two-game win streak. 

The Cobras are led in scoring by Saquita Joyner with 13.2 points per game this season. Ahlea Myers leads the team in assists averaging 3.3 assists per game and 8.5 points. 

LAST ACTION
Newberry got its fifth win of the season this past Saturday (Jan. 22) against UVA Wise, 70-62, inside Eleazer Arena. Courtney Virgo led the Wolves in scoring with 19 points and a game-high six rebounds. Ericka Wiseley also posted a double-digit scoring effort with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Newberry Women's basketball heads to Jefferson City, Tenn. next Saturday (Jan. 29) to take on the Eagles of Carson-Newman University. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
