The William C. Blackmon Foundation Makes Donation to Newberry Athletics

| By:
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The William C. Blackmon Foundation held its inaugural golf tournament this past Saturday at the Country Club of Newberry.

Will Blackmon was a former Newberry football player, served as Chair of the Athletic Club Board of Advisors, and served on the Newberry College Board of Trustees. His youngest son Alec is a current member of the Newberry football team.

Blackmon passed away this past March, and his family started the foundation to honor Blackmon's legacy in the Newberry community. Before the golfers teed off, the Blackmon family presented Newberry Athletic Director Ralph Patterson, head football coach Todd Knight, and Director of Strength, Conditioning, and Sports Performance Tony Bixler a check for $5,000. The money will be used to sponsor and furnish the nutrition bar in the Younts Performance Center.

"This is an incredible gift in honor of Will Blackmon," Patterson said. "Our student-athletes will benefit from the generosity of the Blackmon family and their friends. We thank all involved for making a difference for Newberry athletics."
