Avery Webb had 26 assists and 10 kills, but the Wolves fell to 4-4 after a 3-0 loss to Carson-Newman on Friday evening.
Newberry's first point of the match came off an Eagles service error, which tied the game 1-1. However, Carson-Newman totaled seven aces the rest of the first set, including three-consecutive aces during a six-point rally.
Trailing 20-9, Newberry began to battle back. Webb set up senior outside hitter
Natasha Bannister for a kill that stopped the Eagles scoring streak. Then Newberry went on a scoring run of their own, putting up five-straight points over a 9-2 run overall. During the comeback effort, Bannister had three kills and senior middle blocker
Zoe Dinkins recorded two as the Wolves pulled close, 22-18. Freshman outside hitter
Taylor Hall tallied a kill as the two teams alternated scores over the final five points and Carson-Newman took set one, 25-20.
In the second set, Newberry started out by outscoring Carson-Newman 7-4 after kills from Dinkins, Webb and freshman outside hitter
Jacquelyn Adams. The Summerville, S.C. native had five kills in the second set, including kills on back-to-back points as Newberry gained a 12-11 lead. A Carson-Newman attack error capped of a four-point rally for Newberry as they held a 13-11 lead.

Amanda Berecz served up two aces and Bannister had another kill. However, the Eagles took set 25-23.
Newberry held a 4-2 lead early in the third set after a kill from Dinkins, but that was their biggest lead the whole set. Carson-Newman went on a four-point run, taking a 6-4 lead and never trailed the rest of the way. Adams and Dinkins both reached their sixth kills of the match during the third period, but Newberry lost the third set 25-17 and the match 3-0.
