GREENWOOD, S.C. – Newberry College senior
Elisa Aguirre won at first doubles and second singles as the Wolves swept their Saturday doubleheader against Lander University and Savannah State University.

The Wolves grabbed an integral point during doubles play to begin the day. Junior
Judit Gonzalez Agud and Aguirre stayed undefeated on the year at first doubles with a 6-2 win. Junior

Lucy Spice nabbed a 6-2 win at second doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Wolves. Sophomore
Rebecca Gibbons and freshman
Rosie Harfield lost in third doubles after a close one, 7-5.
Newberry's point in doubles play proved to be the difference as things shook out evenly during single play. Gonzlaez Agud dominated at first singles 6-0, 6-0. Aguirre won in two hard fought sets 6-4, 6-2 at second singles, and Griffiths claimed a 7-5, 6-1 win at fourth singles. Freshman
Ish Singh (no. 3 singles) and Spice (no. 5 singles) lost their matches and Gibbons forced a third set in her match but lost 10-3 in the tiebreaker set. However, Newberry's three wins at first, second and fourth singles were enough to keep pace with the Bearcats and win the morning half of their double header in Greenwood, S.C., 4-3.
Newberry vs Savannah State, W 7-0
After the close win in the morning, the Wolves geared up for a second match at 1 p.m. with Savannah State. Harfield and Gibbons linked together for a 6-1 win at first doubles, Spice and Griffiths took care of business 6-0 at second doubles, and junior
Madison Conwell and Singh also won 6-0 as Newberry quickly secured the doubles play point.
In singles play, Griffiths got the nod at first singles and cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Singh only need one extra point to win her match, 6-0, 6-1, at second singles. Gibbons needed to play just one more point than Singh to lock down third singles 6-0, 6-2. Harfield, Conwell, and sophomore
Meredith Ware all won 6-0, 6-0, at fourth, fifth, and sixth singles, respectively. The Wolves barely lost a point as they grabbed a 7-0 win over Savannah State to secure their second win of the day in Greenwood, S.C.
