Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry College Wolves (5-6, 5-4 SAC) defeated the Cobras of Coker (3-9, 3-6 SAC) by a final score of 82-59 on Saturday.
The Wolves hit the ground running with an early 8-0 run capped off with a three-pointer from Devario Sheppard to claim an early lead. They would follow that up with a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 17-6 behind key buckets from TJ Brown and QuanDaveon McCollum. After trading buckets, Brown would then convert on seven straight points to kickstart a 13-0 run for the Wolves to bring Newberry's lead up to 35-14. The Wolves would keep the pressure on for the remainder of the half, sending the game into the break with a 42-18 advantage.
The Wolves would start off the second half with a 7-0 run that was capped off with another three-pointer from Sheppard. The Cobras would try to apply some pressure of their own, but Marcus Ford would hit a pair of buckets to halt them in their tracks. Coker would try to make a push late at the free throw line, but the Wolves would not relinquish their lead in route to a dominant 82-59 victory.
The Wolves had four different players score double-figures, led by Ford who had 17. McCollum produced a solid stat line of 14 points and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Sheppard and Brown would have 13-point, 7 rebound and 11-point performances, respectively.
The Wolves return to action on Monday, Dec. 20 when they travel to face Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 p.m.
