NEWBERRY- The Newberry Women's Tennis team found themselves in a tight battle against the Saints but pulled away with a 4-3 victory at the Oakland Tennis Center.
Elisa Aguirre forced a third set in a tough singles battle against Limestone's Alexandra Dolfi, which granted the Wolves the team points needed to prevail victorious. Aguirre found herself in a hole in the first set, falling 2-6 but was resilient in the second winning 7-5. She then kept her composure in the third set, cruising by Dolfi 6-2.
The Wolves (15-3, 2-1 SAC) got off to a hot start, winning two out of three doubles matches. The team of
Aguirre and
Judit Gonzalez Agud took care of Dolfi and Caroline St. Antoine easily with a 6-1 win.
Madison Conwell and Lucia Davilla continued Newberry's hot start, picking up the 7-5 win over Alexis Ramirez and Allison Walsh.
Newberry carried over their momentum into the singles matches where they went 3/6 on the day.
Madison Conwell defeated Luana Hermes in two sets with scores of 6-2, 7-5. Lucia Davilla brought her energy over from doubles play, getting the match win over Allison Walsh. Davilla came away with 6-2, 6-4 set win to take the match.
The Wolves look forward to conference play as they face Catawba in Salisbury, N.C. on March 11 at 2 p.m.
