NEWBERRY S.C. – Fifteenth ranked Newberry defeated the University of Alabama at Huntsville 7-2 Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep of the Chargers.
The Chargers would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when John Trousdale grounded into a double play to score Garrett Bodine. The Wolves would tie the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI ground out by Collin Allman that scored
Dalton Lansdowne. The Wolves would take the lead for good the next inning on an RBI single by
Tanner Lane to make it 2-1.
Ian Clements would then drive in two with single to left center and Lansdowne would pick up an RBI ground out to make it a 5-1 game. The Wolves would add two more in the sixth inning to take the win.
Lane led the Wolves offense going 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI, while Clements finished 1-3 with two runs driven in. Allman, Lansdowne, and
Jack Harris each had one hit for Newberry.
Ryan Harbin (1-0) picked up the win allowing just one run on four hits and striking out seven in six innings of work.
For the Chargers, Tyler McCown and Collin Brewer each had two hits. Harper Case (0-1) took the loss allowing four earned runs on five hits in three and one-third innings of work.
