FLORENCE, S.C.- The Newberry Women's tennis team swept the competition on day two of the City of Florence Invitational, resulting in a first place finish. The Wolves first took care of Barton College in dominant fashion, followed by a closely contest battle against Palm Beach Atlantic which landed the Wolves the championship. The victory gave the Wolves their 13th consecutive victory of the year. 

Doubles vs. Barton (Semi-finals)
The Wolves picked up two victories in doubles play which was quintessential during their championship run. Lucy Spice and Amy Griffiths executed perfectly against Barton's Capellades and Caballero to start the day with a 6-0 victory. Teammates Lucia Davilla and Madison Conwell followed in their footsteps as they picked up a 6-1 victory against Vargas and McCartney. 

Singles vs Barton (Semi-finals)
Newberry was able to transition well after picking up important victories against Barton in doubles action. Spice played textbook tennis as she defeated the Bulldog's Isabella Caballero 6-3, 6-4. Griffiths did much of the same as she did not give up a single point in the first set, giving her the confidence to take down McCartney by a 6-0, 6-3 margin. Newberry's Lucia Davila picked up a crucial victory against Ada Vargas, prevailing victorious 6-0, 6-3. 
 

Doubles vs PBA (Finals)
The Wolves could seem to get into a groove going into doubles play to start the championship rounds. Palm Beach Atlantic were able to get the better of Judit Gonzalez Agud and Elisa Aguirre as Shelby Groeneveld and Yuliia Russu defeated the duo by a 6-2 margin. The rest of the doubles matches were much of the same but the Wolves would show tremendous individual effort as their singles play rose them to the top of podium. 

Singles vs PBA (Finals)
The Wolves shined during singles play, picking up four crucial victories that would land them the championship title. Judit Gonazelez Agud would record a come from behind victory against Shelby Groeneveld. Gonzalez Agud found herself trailing after the first set but forced a third set after dominating 6-4 in the second. She took care of business in the last set prevailing over her opponent 6-5. Lucy Spice found herself in a similar situation as she dropped the first set of the match against the Sail Fish's Edstrom. Spice came back to win it after taking the second set 6-3 and capitalizing on the third, 6-3. Singles play was full of closely contested battles as Amy Griffiths also found herself trailing in the first set. The Liverpool, England native edged her opponent 6-4 in the second set and dominated in the third by prevailing victorious 6-0. Madison Conwell was able to make light work out of Palm Beach Atlantic's Fenandez as she defeated her opponent by a 6-2, 6-4 margin.

The singles victories pushed the Wolves past Palm Beach Atlantic, awarding them the first place finish. The Wolves previously defeated Augusta University and Barton College before making it to the championship match. The Wolves look to continue their undefeated season as they are set to play Tusculum on Feb. 15 at the Oakland Tennis Center.
