Despite the Cold, Hot Bats Lift Wolves to Sweep of Braves

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Despite cold rain and snow that fell a majority of the game, the Newberry bats were red hot combining for 23 hits and 22 runs in a sweep of UNC-Pembroke.

Game One: Newberry 10 UNCP 2
The Wolves would get on the board first when Julia Bomhardt would double down the left-field line to score McKenzie Barneycastle and Haley Simonds.  Maleena Wright would make it a 4-0 game in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run.  The Braves would score two in the top of the fifth to cut the lead in half, but Newberry would score six unanswered to cruise to the win.

Wright led the Wolves at the plate going 2-3 with a triple, home run, and three RBI's.  Simonds would finish 2-2 with two RBI's and a run scored, and Barneycastle would finish 2-4 with two runs scored.  Selice Daley (2-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five in five innings of work.

Game Two: Newberry 12 UNCP 6
Newberry would explode for six runs in the top of the first and then add four more runs in the third to jump to a 10-0 lead.  The Braves would fight back to make it a 10-six game, but a two-run double by Tedi Nunn in the bottom of the sixth would give the Wolves some breathing room.

Nunn would have a career game to lead the Wolves going 4-5 with a double and three RBI's.  Kylee Barry came off the bench to go a perfect 3-3 with a double and two runs driven in.  Alyssa Ball (2-0) picked up the win allowing two runs on six hits in four innings of work.
