NEWBERRY, S.C. - Newberry defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 7-4 in a non-conference baseball affair Tuesday night.
The Wolves would take the early lead when
Kenny Bergmann reached on an infield single to score Collin Allman in the bottom of the first. The Bears would tie the game in the top of the second on a solo home run by Mike McHugh.
In the bottom of the third,
Aidan Baur would draw a bases-loaded walk to push across the go-ahead run, and
Luke Orr would then clear the bases with a double to left-center to make it a 5-1 game. Newberry would add two more in the bottom of the eighth on a two run single by
Nick Butler. Lenior-Rhyne would score three in the ninth, but Newberry would hold on for the win.
Quinton Driggers (1-0) picked up the win allowing one hit and striking out one in three innings of relief. Jackson Benjamin (0-1) took the loss allowing four runs on six hits in two innings.
