NEWBERRY, S.C.- Trailing 4-3 with 16:35 remaining in the first half, Newberry would score 11 unanswered goals and cruise to a 15-8 victory over Lees-McRae Tuesday night in non-conference women's lacrosse.
With 13:00 minutes left in the first,
Julia Hardiman would score to tie the game at four. Five and a half minutes later,
Chloe Wood would score her second goal on an assist by
Sophie Moore to give the Wolves the lead for good. Less than a minute later,
Marissa Plumer would score to make it a two-goal game. Hardiman would add another goal just before the break to make it 7-4 heading into halftime.
The Wolves offense would come out on fire in the second half, scoring five goals in the first ten minutes and would increase their lead to 14-4 with 13:15 remaining.
Sophie Moore and Wood each scored five goals and had one assist to lead the Newberry attack. Plumer and Hardiman added three and two goals, respectively, while
Kylee Kanealey had an assist.
Madalyn Messersmith led all players with three caused turnovers and four ground balls Plumer,
D'Zhanya Richards, and Kelly Martin had two caused turnovers, while Moore had a game-high seven draw controls for the Wolves.
