PEMBROKE, N.C. – Junior relief pitcher Quinton Driggers became Newberry's fourth-ever All-American and second in the Division II era with a second team selection by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, while center fielder Danton Hyman was named honorable mention.

Driggers joins Albert Baur (2015) as the only All-Americans since Newberry's transition to Division II in 1994. Johnny Harbin (1971 and 1972) and Tim Cook (1977) were All-Americans in Newberry's NAIA era. All three former All-Americans were selected in the MLB draft: Baur in the 28th round of the 2015 draft by the Pirates, Cook in the fifth round by the Brewers in 1978, and Harbin in the first round by the Dodgers in 1972.

Quinton Driggers – Second Team Relief Pitcher
Driggers has transformed into one of the most dominant relievers in the nation in 2019. He finished the regular season as one of two players in all three NCAA divisions with nine wins and six saves on the season, leads the nation with 4.32 hits allowed per nine innings, and is fourth nationally with a 1.40 ERA. He appeared in 29 games, the fourth-most nationally, and his walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP) of 0.94 is ninth in Division II.
 
The junior First Team All-Region and All-SAC selection, SAC All-Defensive Team member, and SAC All-Tournament Team pick struck out 94 batters, third-most in the SAC this season and fifth-most in school history, and set a school record with an opponents' batting average of .145.
 
Driggers was twice named SAC Pitcher of the Week and earned a Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week selection, threw 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings in a 26-day span in March and April, and did not allow an earned run in conference play.

Danton Hyman – Honorable Mention Outfielder
Hyman is Newberry's first-ever SAC Player of the Year and was named First Team All-Region and All-SAC, to the SAC All-Defensive Team, and to the SAC All-Tournament Team in addition to earning a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and two SAC Player of the Week honors this season.

Hyman established a school record with 94 hits, which ranks second in Division II and led all three NCAA divisions until two weeks after Newberry's regular season had concluded. He concluded the season with a .403 batting average, raising his career average to Newberry's third-highest ever at .370. His 275 career hits ranks as the second-most in school history and fourth-most among active Division II players. He reached safely in 63 of his final 64 games and concluded the season on a career-high 16-game hitting streak.
 
He ranks in the top 10 in the SAC in batting average, on-base percentage, at-bats, hits, doubles, triples, runs, RBI, total bases, sacrifice bunts, sacrifice flies, and stolen bases. He leads the team with 31 multi-hit games and with 45 RBI from the leadoff position.
 
A four-year starter in center field, Hyman has a .989 career fielding percentage in 202 games played. He started 119 consecutive games and 182 of his last 183.
