ROCK HILL – Harry Bolton has been named the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete for men's golf.

The senior standout becomes the third Newberry men's golf player to earn the award since the 1997-98 year. The prestigious honor equally weighs athletic achievement with academic success and community service.

Head coach Howard Vroon is proud of Bolton's achievements, saying, "We are so pleased for Harry.  What he has accomplished at Newberry is quite impressive. He is an outstanding student and he has trained himself to become an excellent golfer.

"He has set the standard in our program for hours devoted to mastering his craft, and this award is a well-deserved and wonderful add-on to earning medalist honors at the SAC Championship.  Harry has put his whole heart into his schoolwork and his golf for the past four years, and he has earned everything coming his way.  I know that all of his teammates join me in congratulating him.  Well done Harry."

Bolton, a senior, boasts an exceptional 3.867 GPA as a sports management major. The Canberra, Australia native has been named to the Dean's List in seven of eight semesters at Newberry College.

During his senior season, Bolton won the SAC Championship by two strokes with an even-par 210. He was named Second Team All-SAC after averaging 72.62 strokes per round with four top-10 finishes in nine events. His regular season was highlighted by earning top-five finishes in consecutive tournaments on two separate occasions.

Bolton finished five of nine tournaments at or below par overall, earning him the No. 78 ranking of all Division II players by Golfstat. His stellar year helped improve his career scoring average to 73.78, fourth in school history and sixth in SAC history.

Bolton's impact at Newberry College has extended beyond the course throughout his career, as he's been involved in multiple community service and leadership activities since his freshman year. The senior has partaken in community service projects at Mid-Carolina and Newberry Country Clubs helping to work on course prep and maintenance, as well as completing a 270-hour internship with the Newberry Athletic Department in Athletic Communications and Game Operations.

During his senior year, Bolton completed a 50-hour coaching internship with the Newberry men's golf program. He has also served as a mentor to younger players at the Royal Canberra Golf Club in his native Australia, working as an Assistant Club Pro. Bolton's leadership with the Newberry men's golf program culminated in selections as team captain in both his junior and senior seasons.

Bolton's selection makes him the 21st SAC Scholar-Athlete across all sports at Newberry College.
