CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Newberry women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 16 Queens Saturday afternoon at the Howard Levine Tennis Center.
The Wolves (12-10, 2-6 SAC) had a tough first singles match as
Elisa Aguirre faced off against Yana Fleyer. IN the first set, Fleyer got the 6-2 to put her out in from. In the second set, Aguirre was able to fight hard to try and force the match into a deciding third set but her efforts came up just short. Fleyer was able to get the 7-6 second set win to take the match.
Amy Griffiths came close in her efforts on the day but falling in three sets to Viktorija Veselinova. In the first set, Veselinova was able to get a 6-3 win. In the second set, Griffiths fought back to get the 7-5 set win to force a third set. In the final set, Veselinova secured the match with a 10-4 set win.
The Wolves return home this Tuesday for their final home match of the season as they take on Catawba at 2 p.m.
