HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Newberry women's tennis team fell 7-0 to the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Wolves (12-12, 2-8 SAC) were unable to get things going in the first singles match, with
Frederike Klein narrowly falling to Johanna Delise in two sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
Lucy Spice got off to a good start in the second match with a 6-3 victory in the first set, but dropped the final two sets to Marta Pinol to ultimately lose.
Through the final four singles matches, Lincoln Memorial took control. The Railsplitters were able to win in straight sets to secure the sweep in singles play.
The Wolves faired better in doubles play, with the pairing of
Elisa Aguirre and
Marta Gomar claiming a 7-5 win in the first doubles match, but the Wolves were unable to earn wins in the second and third matches.
The Railsplitters ultimately claimed the 7-0 victory on the day, closing out Newberry's season.
