JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Newberry men's tennis team got back on track Sunday afternoon, downing Carson-Newman 4-3 in conference action.
The Wolves (7-8, 1-2 SAC) started out hot in double action as they were to get the poin.
Sean Nguyen and
Jose Navarro defeated Jesus Bacete and Gabriel Dabdab 6-4 in first doubles play.
Edison Ambarzumjan and
Alex Amble were able to edge past Hernan Toledo and Rintaro Oka with a 7-6 score.
Newberry was able to get great wins with their top three singles performers as they were able to grind out some tough wins. Ambarzumjan took care of Dabdab with a 5-3 score in the first set. Ambarzumjan had a close set in the second, edging past Dabdab with a 7-6 score.
Jose Navarro had a very tough match against Oka as they went to three sets. Navarro was able to get the first set with a 7-5 win before falling 7-6 in the second set. Navarro was able to finish off Oka in the third set with a 6-2 win.
Sean Nguyen came up big for the Wolves in the three spot, sweeping Toledo in two sets. Nguyen was able to win convincingly in the first set with a 5-3 win and was able to get past Toledo in the second set with a 7-6 win.
The Wolves will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Hartsville to take on Coker on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
