AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Newberry baseball team fell to the Augusta Jaguars by a final score of 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon at Jaguar Field.
The Wolves drop to 19-7 overall with the loss while the Jaguars improve to 11-10.
A four-run third inning for the Jaguars put the Wolves in a hole that they could just not climb out of.
Newberry would answer in the fifth inning as Chance Barbary led off the inning with a single to third base.
Dalton Lansdowne followed up with another single to right field as
Danton Hyman loaded the bases with a bunt single.
Aidan Baur would then drive in two runs as he hit a single up the middle of the field, cutting the Jaguars lead to 4-2.
Augusta notched two more runs later on in the sixth inning before the Wolves scored two more to remain within striking distance. Baur recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly after Hyman reached on a single.

The Wolves added another run in the eighth as
Colin Allman was aided by his teammates to reach home after he led off the inning with a single.
Peyton Spangler advanced Allman to second on a terrific sacrifice bunt down the first base line. A passed ball moved Allman to third where Barbary managed to score the run as he grounded out to shortstop.
Newberry avoided giving up any runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning, despite the Jaguars loading the bases.
Down one run heading into the top of the ninth the Wolves would look to tie or take the lead. After starting with two quick outs, White would take a walk to put the tying run on base for Newberry. However, the Jaguars managed to record the final out to end the game.
Jonathan Elicier took the loss for the Wolves after giving up four runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings pitched.
Newberry will look ahead to a weekend series at home against conference rival Mars Hill. The first game of the series will be this Friday, March 15th at 6 p.m.
