NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves (1-2) struggled to find their offense against the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks (2-0), falling to the visiting team by a final score of 21-4.
Things looked bright early on for the Wolves, who began the game with two quick goals in the first two minutes from sophomore
Sophie Moore, getting ahead to a 2-0 lead.
Just 17 seconds after that second goal, however, the Redhawks responded with a goal from Alexis Grant to kickoff what would become an 18-0 scoring run.
The Wolves finally broke that run with 13:17 remaining in the game when Moore secured a hat trick, scoring off of a nice pass from freshman
Chloe Wood.
Wood, who leads the Wolves in points on the season, also got on the board with an unassisted goal in the waning minutes of the game.
Freshman goalkeeper
Casey McCabe made her collegiate debut after taking over in the second half, recording three saves for the Wolves.
Roberts Wesleyan wound up outshooting the Wolves by a total of 46-7, including a 35-5 margin in shots on goal.
The Wolves were efficient when getting shots on target, converting on 80 percent of their shots on goal.
The Redhawks were also able to win the majority of draw controls, winning 15 to Newberry's 11.
The Wolves will return to Setzler Field on Wednesday, February 27 when they take on Erskine at 3:00 pm.
