Box Score WINSTON SALEM, N.C. - The Newberry Wolves men's basketball team improved to 5-2 on the young season with a 76-61 victory over the Piedmont International Bruins in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening.
The game was tight early as Newberry went into half with a 28-19 lead. The Wolves got off to a hot start, however, as they got out to an early 9-2 lead that forced a Piedmont International timeout. The lead was extended to double digits at 14-4 minutes later before the offensive pace of the game really slowed down. Suffocating defense kept the Wolves out in front, but a myriad of turnovers and missed shots kept the game close through the first 20 minutes.Â
Coming out of the break, both teams caught fire offensively and went on to score 90 combined points in the second half. Newberry got off to a hot start and extended the lead out to 16 points on a
TJ Brown and-one before cruising the rest of the way. Although the Wolves shot a lower overall percentage than they did in the first half, they made six three pointers and 12 free throws to pull away for the double digit victory.
TJ Brown led the Wolves with 16 points, while
Luke Gibson had 14 points and made four three pointers and
Marshall Lange finished with 13 points.
QuanDaveon McCollum and Angelo Sales, Jr. led the charge defensively with seven rebounds each, while
Marcus Ford added in six.
The Wolves will get back to conference play this coming weekend as they will take on Tusculum at home on Saturday.
