NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's basketball team suffer first loss of the season in a 72-54 game against North Greenville.
The game started off pretty sloppy for both sides as each team turned the ball over at least twice a piece. The Crusaders got the first bucket a little over two minutes into the game. A jumper by North Greenville's Haylee Luttrell gave her team the 2-0 lead .From that point on the Crusaders never lost their lead throughout the rest of the game.
Newberry in the first quarter kept the score close. They were down as much as seven points twice within the quarter. Junior
Ke'Shaun White started the Wolves late run in the final five minutes with a layup. A 5-2 run made the score 13-9 at the end of the first.Â
In the second quarter, North Greenville started to pull away. A layup by Savannah Hughes got the Crusaders going on a 7-3 run. The Wolves were able to cut the deficit down to five after a made jumper by freshman
Courtney Virgo. Three back to back three pointers by North Greenville extended their lead, on their way to a 36-23 halftime lead.Â
The Wolves out scored the Crusaders 16-13 in the third quarter but could not trim the lead down. A made three pointer by junior
Talia Roberts help brought Newberry within seven points at the start of the fourth quarter. North Greenville was able to pull away late as Newberry struggled to score late in the period.Â
