THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- Newberry snapped a nine-game losing streak in one-possession games dating to October 2017 with last week's 37-34 win over UNC Pembroke, which was also the program's first overtime victory in 11 years.
- Chance Walker moved into seventh place in school history in career kick return yardage in Saturday's win over the Braves. He now has two touchdowns and 1,203 yards in his career.
- Walker also became the first Newberry player in the last 20 years with multiple 60-yard touchdown plays in multiple games with his rushing and kick return touchdowns last week.
- Shea Rodgers moved past SAC Hall of Fame member, the late Rev. Eddie Taylor (1982-85), for fifth place in school history in career scoring with a field goal and three extra points against UNC Pembroke. He now has 205, 12 points shy of matching Ryan Lukshis's (2004-07) 217 points for the most points by a kicker and fourth-most overall in school history.
- Anthony Blue has 15 career passes defended despite playing just two seasons in Scarlet and Gray. He is two shy of reaching the top 10 in the Newberry record books since passes defended became an official NCAA statistic in 2000.
- Newberry is now 12-2 all-time in games played on Nov. 2 and enters this week's game with Wingate at 1-13 on Nov. 9.
- Wingate's Joe Reich and Newberry's Todd Knight are the second- and third-winningest active coaches in the South Atlantic Conference behind Tim Clifton of Mars Hill.
- Over the past two seasons, Wingate has five total losses: three to Lenoir-Rhyne, which defeated the Bulldogs last week in Hickory, and two to all other opponents.
- Wingate is ranked fourth in Super Region 2 in the second official NCAA rankings. If the postseason began this weekend, Wingate would open at home against West Florida in a rematch of the 2017 opening round, when the sixth-seeded Argonauts upset Wingate on the road to kick off an improbable run to the national title game in just their second season of football.
