THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- Krishaon Jackson's 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown against Tusculum was Newberry's first since Rameak Smith recovered a fumble in the end zone at Brevard in 2016. Terrell Owens' PAT block was Newberry's first since Jimmy Holmes blocked an attempt by Catawba that same season.
- Last Saturday's win over Tusculum was the first time in school history that a game ended by a 30-20 final score. This situation, known to Twitter users as "scoragami," has happened three times in the last six Newberry games, including the 40-20 win over Catawba in 2018 and the 30-28 loss to Florida Tech on Sept. 14.
- Newberry picked off two passes and recovered three fumbles against the Pioneers, the seventh time in head coach Todd Knight's tenure that Newberry has forced five turnovers in a game. The Wolves are second in the SAC with nine turnovers gained this season.
- Tusculum outgained the Wolves by 178 yards in Newberry's win. It is the only time in head coach Todd Knight's 11 seasons that the Wolves have been outgained by 175 yards or more in a win. The previous record for yardage differential was 169 yards in a 40-36 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in 2010 that saw the Wolves win the turnover battle 3-0.
- Darryl Foster had a 4-yard tackle for loss for a safety against Tusculum. Newberry is 7-0 in Todd Knight's tenure when scoring a safety in a game.
- Bobby Irby's 22-yard rush in the season opener at North Greenville is the longest by a Newberry player this season. Mars Hill's longest run was a 21-yard carry by Christopher Roberts against St. Augustine's on Sept. 14.
- Newberry tied a SAC record with six interceptions in the teams' last meeting at Setzler Field.
- Mars Hill wide receiver Craig Rucker is sixth in Division II in both total receivng yards (502) and yards per game (125.5) in 2019. He leads all active Division II players and ranks second among current NCAA players in receiving yards (3,497) and yards per game (99.9) and is second in Division II in both receptions (232) and receiving touchdowns (33).
