NEWBERRY – Newberry will seek its fourth straight win over Carson-Newman when the two teams renew a series that dates to 1940 on Saturday in Jefferson City.
The Wolves have won three consecutive games over the Eagles for the first time since the Eisenhower administration. Newberry won the last meeting at Burke-Tarr Stadium in dramatic fashion, getting last-minute touchdown catch from Markell Castle to take the lead. The only time Newberry has ever won consecutive games in Jefferson City came in 1957 and 1959.

- Chance Walker is the reigning D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Week and SAC Offensive Player of the Week after a 26-carry, 261-yard, six-touchdown performance that set school records for rushing yards, touchdowns, and points scored and matched the SAC scoring record set in 1989.
- Walker is the seventh player in school history to be named National Player of the Week.
- Prior to Saturday's game, Walker's 17-yard rush against UVa-Wise was the longest carry by a Newberry running back in 2019; his 78-yard touchdown was the eighth-longest running play in school history. He also had a 68-yard touchdown carry.
- Quarterbacks and wide receivers had accounted for 45 percent of the Wolves' rushing yards entering the Catawba game. The 432-yard rushing day, Newberry's second-most yards this century, helped the Wolves to their first game with over 500 yards of offense in four years.
- Since taking over as Newberry's starting quarterback prior to the Mars Hill game, Colton Bailey has averaged 172.7 yards through the air, completing nearly 59 percent of his passes, and added 62.3 yards per game on the ground. He rushed for 102 yards at Catawba.
- Keito Jordon already moved into the top five in school history in tackles for loss and is two sacks away from the top five in that category in just in his third season in Scarlet and Gray. He leads the SAC in TFL in 2019 (13) and is third with 7 sacks, 0.5 behind Ty Kelly in second.
- Carson-Newman leads the all-time series with Newberry 31-23, but the Eagles' lead is bolstered by 14 straight wins from 1989 to 2005. Newberry leads 23-17 in all other meetings.
- Newberry has won three straight games over Carson-Newman for the second time ever. The current streak began with a 25-21 win in 2017, the last win in a one-possession game for the Wolves and Newberry's second win in the last 14 meetings in Jefferson City dating to 1990.
- Carson-Newman ranks second in Division II in both third down conversion offense (.575) and defense (.236).
