NEWBERRY – Newberry welcomes UVa-Wise to Setzler Field for the first time as the Wolves and Cavaliers prepare to square off on Newberry's Homecoming.
UVa-Wise is in its first season as members of the South Atlantic Conference after competing as part of the Mountain East Conference for its first six years as a Division II institution. The Cavaliers defeated Chowan in the season opener but have struggled since, including a 63-6 loss at the hands of No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne last week.

THIS WEEK'S TOP STORYLINES
- Newberry has been outgained in every game this season by an average of 129.4 yards per game. In 2018, Newberry had more total offense in eight of 11 games.
- Newberry has just three rushing plays of 20 yards or longer, two of which were Colton Bailey carries (38 and 20 yards) against Mars Hill. Bobby Irby also had a 22-yard carry at North Greenville. Catriez Cook's 15-yard carry against Florida Tech is the longest by a Newberry running back this season.
- Newberry allowed three touchdown passes against Mars Hill, its first time giving up three or more passing touchdowns since allowing four to Florida Tech in the 2016 season opener.
- The Wolves' 38-yard passing touchdown from Colton Bailey to Austin Gordon 45 seconds into the game against Mars Hill was Newberry's quickest touchdown since scoring in 40 seconds in a 53-14 win over Lenoir-Rhyne in 2016. It marked the third time in the last four years that Newberry has scored in the opening minute of a game.
- Newberry has lost eight consecutive one-possession games, including both the Florida Tech and Mars Hill games this season by a total of three points. The Wolves' last win by one possession was a 25-21 win at Carson-Newman on Sept. 25, 2017.
- Saturday's loss was the first time Newberry lost to a Division II opponent when leading after three quarters since a 27-24 loss to Limestone on Oct. 21, 2017.
- UVa-Wise has been outscored 71-8 in the second quarter of its five games this season. The second quarter is Newberry's most prolific quarter; the Wolves have scored 46 of their 101 points in the second period, which is the only quarter in which the Wolves hold an advantage.
- Demetrius Mann of UVa-Wise has seven punt returns for 217 yards, an average of 31.0 yards per return, and two touchdowns. He was named SAC Special Teams Player of the Week after a season-opening win over Chowan in which he had a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown, blocked a PAT, had four solo tackles, and hauled in an interception. He also returned a punt 48 yards for a touchdown against Mars Hill.
