SUMTER, S.C. - Several individuals from the women's tennis team saw action in doubles and singles matches at the ITA Southeast Regionals this weekend at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter.
Women's Doubles
Amy Griffiths and
Lucy Spice won two matches in the women's open doubles and eventually advanced to the round of 16. In the opening round, the Newberry duo easily won 6-2 over Emmanuel's Pearllan Mary Cipriano and Katharina Kiderlen. The pair then upset the fifth seed duo of Annie McCullogh and Caitlin McCullogh, 6-3. Griffiths and Spice ultimately fell 6-4 in a hard fought match to Caitlin Klaassen and Viktorija Veslinova of Queens.
Elisa Aguirre and
Frederike Klein won 6-4 over Belmont Abbey's Teagan McNamara and Laura Seib before falling 6-3 in the next round to Flagler's Camila Ramazzini and Lixin Wang.
Women's Singles
In singles action, Spice won 6-2, 6-4 in her first match of the day before falling in the next round 6-2, 6-0. Griffiths' also won her opening round match 6-4, 6-3 but also fell in the next round 6-4, 6-1. Klein nearly won in her opening match but couldn't finish, falling 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (1). Aguirre also lost her opening match but bounced back to win one of her consolation matches.
