SAINT CHARLES, MISSOURI – In the second game of their weekend road trip, Newberry (3-3) fell to non-conference opponent Lindenwood (5-1) by a score of 4-2.
The Wolves struck first on a goal from
Brady Keeler in the 7th minute. She was assisted by
Mariah Lee, who was able to give Keeler a good look from a corner.
Lindenwood struck back in the 18th minute, allowing the Lions to bring a 1-1 tie into the halftime break.
Early in the second half, each side scored a goal to keep the game tied at 2-2, but the Lions came on strong toward the end of the game, scoring two goals in the final ten minutes to pull out a 4-2 victory over the visiting Wolves.
Keeler scored both goals for Newberry, capitalizing off of assists from Lee,
Farai Kawonde, and
Kristyna Oyola. The Wolves were efficient, scoring twice on their five shot attempts, but were ultimately outshot by the Lions 21-5. Lindenwood also had the advantage in corners 12-4.
The Wolves return home for a rematch with Lindenwood at noon on Sunday, September 30, at Setzler Field.
